“Night at the Museum … An Author’s Evening” 2010 Spring Series Schedule

(Fort Myers, FL: January 25, 2010) - The Southwest Florida Museum of History announces this season’s Author’s Evening Series, a community-based monthly event open to the public to help raise funds for museum exhibits.  The events include the featured author presentation, a meet-and-greet book signing, admission to the Museum and dessert from Mason's Bakery, all for just $10, tax deductible. The Spring series is held at the Museum on the 2nd Wednesday of each month thru April and meets from 6:00-7:30 pm.  Space is limited so reservations are required by calling 239-321-7430. Dr. Robin Brown – Florida’s First People

Calusa expert
          Robin Brown’s lifelong interest in the early history of the state prompted the publication of his first book, Florida's Fossils, 20 years ago. He has since written Florida’s First People, and The Crafts of Florida’s First People.  Brown has helped develop exhibits about the 12,000 year history and story of Calusa technology to educate people of all ages about Florida's early inhabitants.

Professor Kerr - Ancient Egypt and Us
Egyptologist
          Professor Adrian Kerr, an Egyptologist, recently published his book, Ancient Egypt and Us, outlining the impact of ancient Egypt on the modern world.  Modern religion, art, architecture, cosmetics, medicine, warfare, peace treaties, government, math, and women’s empowerment, all have their roots in ancient Egypt.
          The funds generated from the sale of this book provide financial support for a group of permanent University of Chicago Egyptologists, who record and restore hieroglyphic texts and reliefs that are threatened by the rising water levels in the areas surrounding the Ancient Egyptian temples.

Stewart Nelson - Sabotage in the Arctic
Historical Documentarian
          Sabotage in the Arctic is a fascinating historical documentary of the 1931 attempt to reach the North Pole by Australian Sir Hubery Wilkins in the submarine Nautilus and rendezvous with the German airship Graf Zeppelin.
          The Wilkins-Ellsworth Trans Arctic Submarine Expedition of 1931 was marked by controversy despite the Nautilus reaching the Arctic, but suspected sabotage ended Sir Hubert’s quest to be the first to use a submarine to cross the Arctic Ocean by way of the North Pole.  Learn more at www.SabotageintheArctic.com.
