The downtown Fort Myers area is teeming with history! The banks of the Caloosahatchee capture every tale and every building has its own unique story. Join us as we reveal the mystery and the meaning of our fascinating City and historic downtown River District on the Downtown Walking Tour presented by the Southwest Florida Museum of History.
This 90 minute guided, leisurely stroll through historic downtown Fort Myers uncovers the stories of the people that built our town. Visit the location of the old Fort, hear the tales surrounding Fort Myers, learn about the rivalry that built at least six businesses and assorted establishments, and view the historic buildings that house the stories of yesteryear thanks to the preservation and restoration efforts that keep our history alive.
The tours originate at the historic Atlantic Coastline Railroad restored train depot now known as the Southwest Florida Museum of History which chronicles the history of Southwest Florida from prehistoric to present-day through exhibits and displays, a 1929 private Pullman railcar, and a replica Cracker House.
From January through April, take a tour on any Wednesday or Saturday at 10:00AM. Space is limited so RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED - please call (239) 321-7430 and reserve a date to learn about our fascinating City and Historic Downtown River District. The price is just $12*. Upgrade by adding a discounted $6* admission to the SWFL Museum of History and enjoy the traveling exhibit, “The Beatles! Backstage and Behind the Scenes” celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the British Invasion, on display now through April 26th 2014.
That's two great educational and cultural experiences for one low price. Historic Downtown Walking Tours and museum group tours are great for groups of family and friends!
After the walking tour, grab lunch at the Oasis Restaurant just across the street from the Museum, or at one of the other delicious downtown dining destinations, then return to the Museum to embark on the indoor tour and learn even more about our area's history.
