Walking Tours of Historic Downtown Ft. Myers in the River District

WHEN: Wednesdays & Saturdays departing at 10AM

The downtown Fort Myers area is teeming with history!  The banks of the Caloosahatchee capture every tale and every building has its own unique story. Join us as we reveal the mystery and the meaning of our fascinating City and historic downtown River District on the Downtown Walking Tour presented by the Southwest Florida Museum of History. 

This 1 ½ hour leisurely stroll through historic downtown Fort Myers uncovers the legends, lore, and rivalry that built our town. Visit the location of the old Fort, hear the legends surrounding Fort Myers, learn about the rivalry that built at least six businesses and assorted establishments, and view the historic buildings that house the stories of yesteryear thanks to the preservation and restoration efforts that keep our history alive.

The tours originate at the historic Atlantic Coastline Railroad restored train depot now known as the Southwest Florida Museum of History which outlines the history of Southwest Florida from prehistoric to present-day through exhibits and displays, a 1929 private Pullman railcar, and a replica Cracker House.

Beginning January 9th through April 28th, take a tour every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:00AM.  Due to limited space, reservations are required so call 321-7429 today and reserve a date to learn about our fascinating City and historic downtown River District. 

The price is $7 for adults and $5 for students.  Upgrade to add a discounted admission to the SWFL Museum of History and learn all about our region’s rich history, plus experience the special exhibition, Tutankhamun: Wonderful Things from the Pharaoh’s Tomb, for only $15 total for adults and seniors or $10 for students.  That's three great educational experiences for one low price!  Take a break after the walking tour to grab lunch at the Oasis restaurant next door to the Museum or one of our delicious downtown dining destinations, then embark on your Museum tour to learn more about our area's history and explore King Tut's tomb in the special exhibit galleries.
